RotaTomorrow is a project initiated by the Member Relations avenue of the Rotaract Club of the University of Kelaniya with the hope of uplifting spirits, nurturing teamwork, and fueling creativity. One of the topics chosen for this novel initiative to augment purpose and creativity is “Women Empowerment”. With the objective in mind, we have decided to organize 3 phases covering a wide range of tasks and actions under the project name “Fe-Male.” For the final phase of our project, we have planned to host a Virtual Game Show – FemaLEAD by recognizing Rotaract Clubs with lead by female presidents and secretaries within the Rotaract District 3220. The scheduled date for the game show would be the 25th of February, 2021 through online platforms Zoom along with a live recording through Facebook. A few of the core objectives of the phase FemaLEAD includes raising awareness on women empowerment by highlighting the contribution made by women through youth empowered organizations like Rotaract. This event will attract the attention of Rotaractors from different Clubs within the country along with members of our Rotaract Club.
Project ‘Fe-Male’ is a novel initiative launched under the project RotaTomorrow conducted by the Rotaract Club of the University of Kelaniya. Project ‘Fe-Male’ was organized as a medium to channel the common problems and issues faced by women daily, through a domestic and industrial perspective to provide a platform to address such issues. The project commenced on the 08th of January, 2021, and will continue until the 25th of February, 2021. It is intended to contribute to achieving the goal of “gender equality” which has been set as one of the Sustainable Development Goals by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015.
FeMale consists of three phases encompassing a range of aspects to fulfil the role of women empowerment. The first phase is an online survey based on a questionnaire, which serves as an initial form of data collection to identify the opinion of the general public within the society. Moreover, this phase includes a series of short videos with professionals belonging to a diverse field and background with the intention of discussing social issues and remedial measures using the data gathered from the initial survey.
The second phase also includes a series of short videos with female Rotaract District Representatives of Rotaract Clubs within and outside Rotaract District 3220 Sri Lanka and the Maldives, where they would be actively expressing their experiences, views, and opinions based on 15 questions to be a form of encouragement for other females as well as the aspiring leaders of the fellowship.
The third (final) phase will be organized in recognizing the need to engage in fruitful conversation with local Rotaract Clubs led by both female president and secretary, through FemaLEAD – a virtual game show; broadcasting through zoom and Facebook live, which would create a platform to rise through competition and judge the best female team through the process of allocating points, while the most popular team would be selected by a process of voting.
