The formula one season with as a triumph for the Tifosi and to everyone’s surprise Mercedes was struggling with issues that put them in the mid-field. So from there onwards, it was clear that it was an all-out battle between Ferrari and the Red Bulls. The Ferrari team has been struggling for quite a while trailing behind Red Bull and the Dominant Mercedes team. However this season they managed to make quite the stride and managed to keep them in the front.
And to all the Ferrari fan’s delight, their hero from Monaco was in the lead of the championship. Until today the F1 season has completed 12 races. Out of these 12 races, Ferrari manages to grab the win on 4 races. And Red bull managed to strike back by taking all the other wins. Charles Leclaire got 3 victories out of 4 and Sergio Perez managed to grab his first win of the season as well while Max grabbed all the other victories.
One might think that the reason behind all those victories is because of the sheer performance of the Red Bull cars but that is far from the truth. Believe it or not, Ferrari has the best-performing car at the moment but they have been terribly unlucky over the course of the first half of the season. There were a lot of technical faults in the car that forced the drivers into retirement and the other reason was they were very poor in terms of strategies. The team implemented strategies without giving them much thought which ultimately caused the drivers to lose valuable points which pushed them further down the grid.
The last race (the French Grand Prix) was a perfect example of how Ferrari is not up to the standards of all the other teams. We saw how Charles lost the rear end and crashed out of the race. He managed to grab pole position and it was a huge blow to them because Charles was leading the race and pulling away from Max Verstappen. With Charles out of the way, Max had a clear way to victory and he did take it. However, Carlos from Ferrari too had a shot at getting a podium finish after having started from all the way at the back of the grid. But a poor strategy call denied him that opportunity, further proving the point that Ferrari has been consistent not with performance but rather mistakes which put their top driver Charles behind 50 points to the championship leader Max Verstappen.
In an interview, Charles himself said that “If I continue to make mistakes like this I don’t deserve to win the championship” We all know how hard Charles can be on himself whenever he makes mistakes. To all the Ferrari fans we can see this as a positive where he will be pushing himself further than ever to take that 1st championship everyone dreams of.
Something that most of us didn’t notice was the fact that despite the poor performance of Mercedes they did however manage to stay and finish in the top five in almost every race. They managed to consistently put in results that might possibly give them a chance at the title in the second half of the season. Toto Wolf the CEO of Mercedes promises that they will work out all their issues and make sure that they will be competing on the front. So that will be something for all of the fans to look out for.
As of now, the 2022 constructors’ standings are as follows, Red bull leads the pack by 396 points while Ferrari is trailing behind by 314 points. Followed by Mercedes with 270 points and Alpine with 93. The rest of the pack consists of Mclaren, Alpha Romeo, Haas, Alpha Tauri, Aston Martine, and at last the Williams team with only 3 points.
The Drivers Championship is led by Max with 223 points followed by Charles who has 170 points. Thirdly we have Sergio Perez of Red Bull with 163 points alongside Carlos Sainz who has 144 points. For the first time in a long time, Lewis Hamilton is being beaten by his teammate in the championship standings. Whereas Russel is ahead of Hamilton. Russel with 143 points and Hamilton with 127. The entire driver’s championship in detail can be found here.
As of now the 2022 Formula one season seems to be tipping in Red Bull’s favour but it is far from over. The Summer break will be a crucial time when all the teams will be able to work on their issues and produce a great result. We hope to see Ferrari fixing their mistakes as fast as possible and making this an interesting championship battle with two great teams. To some up the F1 22 season, it is without a doubt going to be Red Bull versus Ferrari this year.
